OUR DISTINCTIVES
OUR CHURCH LOGO The Church logo has three main components: The burning bush, the tongues of fire and the Bible. The burning bush reflects our Presbyterian heritage and represents God’s presence Exo 3:2-5. The three tongues of fire illustrate Zion’s conviction of the triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And the bush is seen “growing” from the open Bible, emphasizing that Zion’s growth must be rooted in the firm foundation of the unchanging, inerrant Word of God. OUR PURPOSE By the grace of God, we seek to be: Z Zealous for the Lord I Immovable in our faith, and in our O Outreach to the lost; and to N Nurture new Christians, equipping them to serve in the body of Christ.
OUR FORM OF GOVERNMENT Both Zion Serangoon (1957) and Zion Bishan (1994), whilst being encouraged to grow in their own way, are subject to the same Constitution in its faith and in the conduct of its ministry, and are governed by one Board of Elders and one Session. The Elders, including the Pastors, are responsible for the spiritual oversight of the Church. The Session, which includes the Deacons and Deaconesses, are responsible for the administrative functioning of the Church.

OUR HISTORY
Zion Bible-Presbyterian Church began on 23rd June, 1957, at No. 3 & 5 Tavistock Avenue, Serangoon Gardens. Our first Pastor, Rev Dr Quek Kiok Chiang, faithfully shepherded this congregation during the first thirteen years and remains today as Advisory Pastor. His son, Rev Dr Quek Swee Hwa, pastored this Church for the next thirty years from 1970 till now. Serving currently with them are five other pastors (Rev Dr Yap Kim Sin, Rev Eric Kwan, Rev Eddy Lim, Rev Freddy Yong, and Rev Vincent Silvarajoo), two Preachers (Preacher Lee Sin Siong and Preacher Kew See Seong), Ministry Staff (Mrs. Emily Quek and Mr Robert Tan) and a team of administrative staff. The elected leaders of Zion are the Pastors, Elders, Deacons, and Deaconesses. By God’s Grace we were able to acquire the present land at Bishan East and in 1994 our church location at No.4 Bishan St 13 was inaugurated. Presently Zion meets as “one Church in two locations” (Zion Serangoon and Zion Bishan).

ACTION GROUPS
WHAT IS AN ACTION GROUP?An Action Group (AG) is a small group of Christians meeting informally in homes or elsewhere to pray, study the Bible, fellowship and care for one another to help its members grow in their Christian lives. An AG is also involved in church activities and other Christian ministries such as witnessing, outreach and foreign missions. WHY ACTION GROUP?AG’s exist essentially because the individual is important. In a church of our size, it is impossible for the Pastors to single-handedly provide everything the flock needs. Christians need support, encouragement, love, guidance, teaching and discipline. The AG provides its members access to the people who can share these things. THE PURPOSE OF ACTION GROUPS1. To develop meaningful relationships in Christ. Being small, the AG allows for more intimate relationships amongst its members. It encourages individual participation, especially to clarify doubts, affirm knowledge and develop strengths. 2. To provide participative learning situations. AG’s facilitate consistent Bible study, enabling members to come to a deeper and more personal understanding of God’s Word. Through discussions, members can get to know God better and learn more about His will for them. “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15 3. To mobilise the church. AG’s seek to help members be “rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.” Col 2:7 The Action Group has come to be an integral part of Zion’s ministry to its members. We welcome you to participate in this important area of our church life and to enjoy the blessings of the Lord provides through it. Please speak to any of the Pastors, who will be happy to recommend an AG that fits your needs. Selecting the right Action Group is not a simple matter and we understand the need of some to visit a number of groups first before finalizing deciding which one would best suit their needs. If this is what you wish to do, we want to assure you that everything will be done to give you the opportunities to make such a decision.

MISSIONS & EVANGELISM
WINNING SOULS FOR CHRISTIn obedience to Jesus’ command to us to proclaim the Gospel to all near and far, we consider the task of evangelism and disciple-making as a primary and urgent task of our church. Members are urged constantly to win souls and make disciples for Christ. We provide training for those who need help in this area. Our prayer is that both individually and together we can harness the resources of the church for the work of evangelism. In the work of evangelism, our approach may be summarized thus: We believe that evangelism through friendship, a personal word of witness is more effective in the long run than in mass crusades. We prefer to evangelize as a ‘local’ church rather than become involved in cooperative efforts with groups that do not share our doctrinal beliefs and church practices. We do not see the need to denigrate other religions and uphold the principle of living in harmony with those of other faiths (though not obliterating the biblical teaching to keep our worship of God separate from these faiths) We emphasize social work and caring for the needy without discrimination of race, religion or any other factor as an end in itself honoring to God and in fulfillment of the biblical command to share our resources with the poor and needy. HOME MISSIONS Through the Bible-Presbyterian Welfare Services, Zion is involved in the care for the elderly (The Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens), the intellectually disabled (The Bishan Home), and youths at risk (The Ling Kwang Youth Centre). Our Home Missions ministries include also a prison and drug ministry in which our members serve as counsellors at the Tampines Prison, the Queenstown Remand Prison, and other prisons and drug centres as well as with Halfway Houses for drug rehabilitation such as the Helping Hand (for men) and Turning Point (for ladies). We also conduct tuition classes for the needy in the Bishan area and visitation to the chronically ill at the Ren Ci Hospital. Zion has a long-standing pre-school educational ministry and we reach out to families of kindergarten children through the Zion Kindergarten and the Zion Bishan Kindergarten. It also is a major partner of the Biblical Graduate School of Theology, which in turn has helped to equip many of our members for more effective service as both lay persons and for pastoral and missionary service. Zion’s ongoing aim in Home Missions is to plant more churches in Singapore, as God leads us to do so. FOREIGN MISSIONS Zion’s extensive mission work spans many countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines. Cambodia, East and Central Asia, Bangladesh, India, Albania, Kenya, and Israel. We work closely with mission agencies and local churches abroad on the twin principles of our Foreign Missions Policy, which focus on pioneer mission work and theological training. We are also minded to share the resources of our church with the less fortunate in social work such as orphanage work, feeding programmes for malnourished children in northern India, a mission hospital at Tebas, West Kalimantan, skills training through tailoring classes for poor village girls in Chennai and Coimbatore. We also have a daughter church in India at Coimbatore. Our members serve as missionaries and ‘tentmakers’ in the countries mentioned.

YOUTH & CHILDREN MINISTRY
The youth ministry in Zion consists of two arms: Youth Discipleship (YD) and Youth Fellowship (YF). Ministering to youths of ages 13-22, these arms seek to nurture young Christians through the various aspects of Christian living and service. Youth Discipleship The main focus of YD is imparting God's word through Bible study. Gender and age-specific small groups gather each Sunday to explore the Bible together facilitated by a YD leader or mentor. Classes in Serangoon Gardens commence at 11am after the morning service, and those in Bishan start classes at 9am, before the morning service. Youth Fellowship Unlike the YW and YD programmes, YF takes place on Saturdays. It is a less formal avenue of learning and development of the youths through teaching, preaching and social interaction activities. Programmes include messages, worship sessions, workshops, games, evangelistic outreaches and other activities. YF is also a place where youth are exposed to various areas of service and group dynamics in service. On an average week, YF is at 4pm at each location. Combined meetings usually take place on the last week of each month at either location. Children’s Ministry The Children's Ministry in Zion aims to bring each child into a faith relationship with God and to help him or her grow in Christ and to be like Christ. We recognize that children are whole persons with physical, mental, social, psychological and spiritual needs. Through the various age-appropriate programmes* in church, where biblical truths are taught regularly, we strive to help children grasp the reality of Christianity and its relevance in their lives. The mandate for the Children's Ministry is to teach and disciple, together with the home, the young ones in our midst. We aim to build up a body of young believers who, having individually come to a saving knowledge of Christ. will respond in obedience, love and service to God and be little lights shining out for God, wherever they are.
